Thumbs up Lawmakers Consider School Food Limits

I entered school in 1973 and graduated from high school in 1986, we never had vending machines or junk food in the cafeteria.

I graduated HS in 1954, and never saw a soda machine, in any Calif. school I attended. The closest thing to junk food, that I remember, was mac and cheese, on fridays.

I graduated in 1981. We had both vending machines for junk food and pop machines. The food from the vending machines was much healthier for us than the cafetaria food and I am not joking.

I Graduated In 1980's And We Did Not Have Vending Machines In The Lunch Room. We Had Candy Machines At The Pool That Was It.

I guess the real question is why were soda/pop and candy machines allowed into the schools in the first place? My 4th grader and 7th grader don't have vending machines at their schools.

To answer that question, look to the money. How much does the vending machine company pay the school (or school district) for allowing the machines on campases? It's usually a % of sales.

I understand the economics of machines, but wonder if parents were allowed to vote for or against them to be put in schools.

My kids have been in school in OK, VA, GA, and now AZ. None of the schools had vending machine nor did it ever come up.
