GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS ASSUME
I actually have a hard time deciding which is worse in this case ... the government school or the parents. For over a year a government school put a boy in English as a Second Language classes
because the boy was Latino. The only problem was the boy only spoke English.
The family of Alek Villaraldo is suing the Hillsboro School District in Oregon for putting their son in the classes solely based on the fact that he is Latino. The parents say that they were never notified or asked for consent to place their son into the program where he stayed for Kindergarten and some of first grade.
His mother did complain to the school, but they insisted that he belonged in the ESOL program. And what complicated the situation even more is that the boy is learning disabled.
Government experts say that errors in placement can happen because "educators" aren't fully trained to distinguish between learning disabilities and those with limited English speaking skills. "Educators" not being fully trained! Can you imagine such a thing!
Now the parents say that they are worried about their son's education ... only now?? It took a mistake like this for them to realize that they have made a mistake? They are the ones who put the poor kid into a government school. The blame is primarily theirs.
