Default Government Schools Assume

GOVERNMENT SCHOOLS ASSUME
I actually have a hard time deciding which is worse in this case ... the government school or the parents. For over a year a government school put a boy in English as a Second Language classes because the boy was Latino. The only problem was the boy only spoke English.
The family of Alek Villaraldo is suing the Hillsboro School District in Oregon for putting their son in the classes solely based on the fact that he is Latino. The parents say that they were never notified or asked for consent to place their son into the program where he stayed for Kindergarten and some of first grade.
His mother did complain to the school, but they insisted that he belonged in the ESOL program. And what complicated the situation even more is that the boy is learning disabled.
Government experts say that errors in placement can happen because "educators" aren't fully trained to distinguish between learning disabilities and those with limited English speaking skills. "Educators" not being fully trained! Can you imagine such a thing!
Now the parents say that they are worried about their son's education ... only now?? It took a mistake like this for them to realize that they have made a mistake? They are the ones who put the poor kid into a government school. The blame is primarily theirs.

Public Schools do not work.

Hand Education over to the private sector. Provide vouchers and or free tuition and books for the poor and middle class.

Solves everything.

Lessens the tax burden on all Americans, improves quality of education, and dosnt make it impossible to fire incompetent teachers and administrators. I like the idea of Teacher's Unions being forced out of bussiness.

Only thing Id opt for Government to provide would be free bussing. Or maybe finally hand over public transportation to the private sector and youd see a more efficient bus and train system throughout the Nation.

Anyways, yeah. Privatize.

I think that public education is some areas isn't working but in others where parents are involved the quality is higher. I vote to give parents a choice on the education of their children.

I vote for getting rid of teacher's unions and abolishing public schools in favor of privatization.

The tax burden would be so much less even with vouchers and tuition being payed for the poor and middle class.

A very higher quality of education would come out of it.

If you are going to do that, then you will need to get rid of the department of education first and then the unions. I beleive then and only then will the teachers that love to teach will find jobs doing that and the quality will go up.

The public schools and their teachers union are making a concerted effort to usurp parents' rights in our country. The example you gave is one instance and another is the public school district in Maine whiich has decided to give birth control information to middle school children without parental consent. One of the first marks of a totalitarian state is to substitute the rights of the state for those of the family so that the young can be raised according to the dictates of the state rather than in accordance with those of parents. Moral power is transferred from the family and given to the state in the persons of the teachers union or the school district. We are in a dangerous situation where family values are being taken over. The only real solution is to institute vouchers as a form of competition to the totalitarian schools and their warped morality.

Warped morality LMFAO.. thats laughable coming from warmongers and religous fanatics.

Nobody is forcing anybody to take anything. They are making them avaliable.

Another thing. Public schools are run but the muncipality. Its the communties descion. If the community doesnt like the school board's policy. Vote them out. ITs pretty simple. All this lesser goveremtn control shit goes out the window when the bible thumping starts. I supose you want the feds to come in and tell a community what they can and cant do. That will be a great leap forward for State's Rights

Default What makes you think our school children are being taught critical thinking skills?

This from a discussion, on another board:

Quote:
I have been intimately involved in the education system for years and it has been my observatiion that while individual teachers try to teach critical thinking skills and while the government, federal, state and local pays lip service to teaching critical thinking skills, most of what goes on in the public schools is indoctrination. Each year less time is spent on academics and more on 'other skills', ie. touchy feely matters.

While reading and math are still being taught history, grammar, creative writing and even science are being replace by sex education, peer groupings, tolerance of non-mainstream lifestyles, and other areas mandated by governments. Most states regulate how many hours must be spent per week on each subject area but then add so many mandated programs that it is impossible to find the time to teach the subject matter.

Our schools are not being used to raise up a generation of critically thinking adults but instead a generation of compliant, namby pamby adults who will accept the nanny state that awaits them.
