Maybe, the reason for failure is because the system is putting to much value in these tests.

The tests that I took throughout my childhood, I didn't even have to study for, now I just have to study for 5 minutes.

But still, once the student succeeds at a test, they drop all knowledge of that test and move on for more academics that they will study for and forget later on in life.

We should either find a more creative way to teach them other than tests (and no, I'm not talking about those stupid educational video games) or we can make the tests more harder so they have to study harder and the knowledge is more imprinted.

If you want a say in your Child's schooling take them to private Education. Public Schools do not work as a whole. Political Bias plays a key role in the directions of the Curriculums, and taxes, oh my god taxes, are not evenly and fairly distributed to Poorer districts.

Nor do the schools have any free reign in deciding there own goals and programs. Blatant disregard for the local Communites who use these schools.

Vouchers and Free tuition for Private Schools and a systematic dismantling or reform of how Americans think of schooling is in order. My advice folks, is do not have Children unless you can afford to pay for Private Schooling.

On the good note though. Private Schools are getting cheaper these days.

Knowledge is one's ticket to choices in one's life.
School presents oppurtunities to students (many do not take advantage at the time and realize what they missed)to be exposed to information and knowledge and new ideas and methods of problem solving.
How can one decide what one wants to be when they grow up if one doesn't know all the choices?

Thomas Jefferson said, "To compel a man to furnish contributions of money for the propagation of opinions which he disbelieves is both sinful and tyrannical."

Seems to me that this could apply to public school funding as well.

The no Child Left Behind Act reached my high school towards the end of my junior year, and let me tell you, it was not helpful to me, my friends, or my school. I took all of the standardized tests, and did what I was supposed to do; I got top grades to get funding for the school. But at what price to me? Rather than having an in depth discussion about Of Mice and Men, I was stuck "practicing my writing skills" writing a PSSA formatted paper about what is wrong with my school and how I would change it, talk about hitting two birds with one stone... For some people, it may have been necessary, but we were in the advanced American Literature class, do we really need to write pointless essays? The teachers were visibly frustrated about the administrations demands on them to incorporate pointless assignments into the already heavy workload. My school was just an average public school in a small town, so from that viewpoint, the No Child Left Behind Act only hurt those of us who were striving to move ahead. So my question is, why does no child left behind have to go hand in hand with no child let ahead? I loved going to a public school, I just wish that my friends and I who were above average were allowed to expand our horizons outside of the administration's guidelines.

HINT

"Wind-Up"

When I was young and they packed me off to school
and taught me how not to play the game,
I didn't mind if they groomed me for success,
or if they said that I was a fool.
So I left there in the morning
with their God tucked underneath my arm --
their half-assed smiles and the book of rules.
So I asked this God a question
and by way of firm reply,
He said -- I'm not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays.
So to my old headmaster (and to anyone who cares):
before I'm through I'd like to say my prayers --
I don't believe you:
you had the whole damn thing all wrong --
He's not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays.
Well you can excomunicate me on my way to Sunday school
and have all the bishops harmonize these lines --
how do you dare tell me that I'm my Father's son
when that was just an accident of Birth.
I'd rather look around me -- compose a better song
`cos that's the honest measure of my worth.
In your pomp and all your glory you're a poorer man than me,
as you lick the boots of death born out of fear.
I don't believe you:
you had the whole damn thing all wrong --
He's not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays.

THE COSMIC ENERGY WEB - The Godscience Manifesto

around the seventeenth century the discoveries of Galileo, Newton, Faraday and a host of others slowly transformed our accepted view of a World Soul into a World Machine that could be shaped and manipulated by human reason and scientific laws. As a result, the Scientific Revolution and the Industrial Age were born, and the Great God Technology became the Alpha and Omega to most scientists, with God being slowly nudged aside by man and his wondrous technological skills.

Today, however, the circle has come around again and recent scientific discoveries are producing an increasing amount of scientific evidence that proves that God really exists. Unfortunately, the same scientists who believe that homo sapiens is the intellectual king of the universe are equally slow to abdicate their throne, and this evidence is being largely ignored or ridiculed.

Ordinary light is still one of the great mysteries of science. But light is only one of the many mysterious forms of electromagnetic energy that flow from the deepest heart of all matter to the furthest reaches of outer space, and this Cosmic Energy Field has become increasingly important, as Einstein himself pointed out:

"There is no place in physics for the field and matter, for the field is the only reality."

A field is defined as "a region of space in which a given effect such as magnetism exists." In short, physicists now know that the perfect vacuum of outer space really isn't empty space at all, but is supercharged with invisible energy particles: gamma rays, infrared rays, microwaves, radio and TV waves, ultraviolet rays and x-rays, among others.

This endless sea of energy reaches down deep into the heart of all matter and connects the Macro World of visible objects—rocks, buildings, the moon, sun, stars, and everything else we can see, touch and feel—with the Micro World of invisible subatomic particles that make up all matter. And when scientists began realizing the pervasive extent of this mysterious Cosmic Energy Web, huge cracks started appearing in their classical idea of the universe as a giant machine.

BUT THAT IS A LIMITED VIEW

I, and my children, received a public school education. Granted, my youngest graduated HS in 1980, while more than mere attendance was required to obtain a passing grade.

Hell, the quality education, they received, might have been a result of my wife and I attending school board meeting, PTA meeting, and Parent Teacher meeting. In other words we were deeply involved, unlike todays parents.

You are to be commended for being involved!

However; the involvement in the PTA has no effect on government control.

Maybe not, directly. But when parents were involved, and attending school board meeting, and providing their input, the federal and state governments were kept out of it. Schools were managed on a local level. It wasn't until parents became to busy, that this no child crap came about.
