There really was a Plan for Iraq
The tone of Bremer's tenure was set with his first major act on the job: he fired 500,000 state workers, most of them soldiers, but also doctors, nurses, teachers, publishers, and printers. Next, he flung open the country's borders to absolutely unrestricted imports: no tariffs, no duties, no inspections, no taxes. Iraq, Bremer declared two weeks after he arrived, was “open for business.”

Nate, Sam wanted us to discuss this topic and then she could read the posts and decide which side to take.

Bremer's de-Baathification plan will go down as one of history's hugest follies. Second only to the invasion itself.

George I think you are the only who posted who knows what it is. Cat knows and has spoke of it. It has had the most impact on why the militias have taken such a stronghold. I wonder if it is possible to reverse its effects completely.

Wow... How disappointing. Sam points out one of the largest foibles of our occupation, and the only rebuttal offered has nothing to do with the topic, but which side Sam is on... which is known to all posting on this thread and accomplishes nothing. Congrats, you have just completed literary masturbation... both of you... together.... Can I offer either of you a cigarette.
Bremmer had no business being appointed to that position, much less being allowed to act as King for a day, a week, month, year... But apparently you both already know that too. There is no defensible position for the crimes during Bremmer's rule.
Also known is this... Anything you you try to bring in to support Bremmer will be shot down quickly. And now that you've been called out on your lame "attack the messenger" attempt, your last resort is to pull something out of the past, something Clinton most likely. Oh wait... you've been called out on that too.... Where, oh where will you turn now?
Let's start with this... over $280 billion (IN CASH!!!) all but evaporated under Bremmer's watch. In the days preceding handover of Iraq to the Interim Government, Bremmer ordered the remaining Iraqi reserves flown, in cash, from the US to Iraq, where it was quickly unloaded and dispersed among several suspect private contractors.
Wanna guess which side I'm on fellas?
..... wrong, I'm on the side of the people, the side of truth, I just go where the facts lead me....
