Heritage Research

The facts show otherwise

Did you really read your "facts" through, gix?

* Average household income of a minimum wage earner: $49,885

The current minimum wage earner makes $10712/yr. So you're saying that someone else, or other people in the house, combine to bring in $39,173/yr or over $18.83/hr? In Missouri, where the median income for a family is $45K a year, your "fact" is simply wrong. I'd also refer you to this site, Median Income info, go about a two-thirds down the page, where it states that the "Median income for ALL households is $46,326.

* Proportion of minimum wage earners under 25: 53 percent

Then that means 47% are over 25, ergo they're by definition not "teenagers or high schooler's" as reference in the quote you try to slam above. EDIT: Also, "teenagers and High schoolers" are under 19, or under 18, not under 25.
You are reading the numbers wrong my friend. Remember this is household income.......... The average family with 2.83 kids.... You have the principle wage earner and then you have the kids who are working after shcool work...

Please show me where all the folks are who are working for minimum wage and are adults

Read the post carefully.

You say the average household income is almost 50K a year. Whether that family has kids or not. You need to realize that that stat works for all families. So my family, which has only 2.0 kids counts the same as the family with 3.0 kids. Again, here's the link, Two-thirds the way down, median income figures.

Your wrong gix, the Census says median income is more like 46K. Also in my case niether of my kids work, they're 11 and 9. Your figures simply don't hold the mustard.

As to the folks who are adults working for minimum wage, again read my reply to your original post.

You stated "Proportion of minimum wage earners under 25: 53 percent" I replied "Then that means 47% are over 25, ergo they're by definition not "teenagers or high schooler's" as reference in the quote you try to slam above. EDIT: Also, "teenagers and High schoolers" are under 19, or under 18, not under 25.

Do you understand that statistic now? First, adults are anyone over 18. If you want to argue that, and I think you could, it would be 21 years old. So part of that 53% would, by the definition of the word adult, be adults. Also that figure states that 53% of minimum wage earners are under 25, that mean 47% of minimum wage earners are ABOVE 25, ergo 47% of minimum wage earners are adults!!!

So we have a lot of minimum wage earners, I'd be willing to bet more then 50% (see definition of adult above). We also have the Median income of peope being 46K, that means some states are higher then the Median, some lower. You add them all together divide by 50 and then get the Median or average. Here's another link, Look at the chart, first third of page. The statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau states that 42.72% of the households in the USA earn less then 25K.

Income range Number of households (in thousands) Percent Cumulative percentages

Under $2,500 8,635 4.50% less than $25k
$2,500 to $4,999 4,696 2.45%
$5,000 to $7,499 9,038 4.71%
$7,500 to $9,999 8,929 4.65%
$10,000 to $12,499 10,334 5.38%
$12,500 to $14,999 8,347 4.35%
$15,000 to $17,499 9,365 4.88%
$17,500 to $19,999 7,129 3.71%
$20,000 to $22,499 9,275 4.83%
$22,500 to $24,999 6,255 3.26%

42.72% less than $25k

Without question, gix you have no concept of this issue.

  1. I give her a pass because it's her first mistake on minimum wage.
  2. Samoa is not a state, it is it's own country - American Samoa is a U.S. territory with a total population of 64K. EDIT: American Samoans are considered United States Nationals, NOT United States Citzens.

So Pelosi screwed 64K people and one time on Minimum wage.

You, gix, on this board have screwed up NUMEROUS times in discussing the minimum wage and it's effects on people.

The Republicans have screwed up almost as much as you and in doing so have hurt Millions!!!

So I will give the lady that hurt 64K a break over people like you that with to screw over MILLIONS.

When you factor in the COST/RISK analysis....the minimum wage is a FUKKING ASSCLOWN PONZIE GAME where the gov't is the house;-)

http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q...goal&FORM=MSNH

http://search.msn.com/results.aspx?q...n-US&form=QBRE

DUMOCRATS obviously skipped out on COST/RISK....or they would never push such control frak assclown policies like stem cell research or gfun CUNTroll....or minimum wage wars.

LOOK&LEARN O Children of UNION.....dems are DISUNION

Here is a list of the states that have a higher minimum wage then the Federal government. Each of these states had a vote where the issue of raising the minimum wage was on the ballot and, of course, it passed. Check and see if you can find the Democratic States and then check the Republican States.
  1. Alaska
  2. Hawaii
  3. Washington
  4. Oregon
  5. California
  6. Nevada
  7. Arizona
  8. Montana
  9. Colorado
  10. Minnesota
  11. Wisconson
  12. Missouri
  13. Arkansas
  14. Illinois
  15. Ohio
  16. Pennsylvania
  17. New York
  18. North Carolina
  19. Maine
  20. Delaware
  21. Rhode Island
  22. Florida
  23. Massechusetts (sp)

There are a couple more, but I think you get the idea. Florida - Arizona - Ohio - Missouri and a few others are not considered "Democratic strongholds." So your statement doesn't really have a lot backing it up. Because it's not just the Democrats, but Republicans are also on board with this.

intersting you bring this up dead. You would also notice that these are the states where most of the folks live on minimum wage reside. So why raise the wage for the rest of the country.
