But it employees American workers... I thought you would give shit about owning an SUV. :}

I don't consider it damning them to anything. I feel that for many of them they can do things to get themselves out of poverty or that they could have done something to not put them in the situation to begin with. Over the long haul raising the minimum wage does not bring them out of poverty as the prices will rise along with the raise in wages. They will essentially have basically the same purchasing power as before. Really, does seven dollars an hour bring you out of a bad situation?

You are becoming a teacher? That is great. I don't know how far away you live from this school, but I once interviewed with Rockhurst. Great school. The money would not be very good (being private), but you should put in an application there if you get a chance.

Ahh, but here's the difference, at least here in Missouri. Not only is the minimum wage rising, but in Missouri the raise is tied to the Consumer Price Index. Thus assuring the minimum wage earner a yearly cost of living adjustment.

Another important point is that the raise in wage went into effect here 01-01-07. Do you think Wal-Mart or Price Chopper (local grocery store) or anyone else raised prices 30%, the increase of the minimum here in MO., on 01-01-07? Or will it take them many months, maybe even years to raise prices? So for awhile the raise will help them.

Thanks. My wife is going back for her Masters at Rockhurst College. Once I pass the PRAXIS test and get my degree I'll be putting it in everywhere.

Colorful colloquiallisms aside, I'm going to be a History teacher too. What's your specialty? Most of my papers and my senior Thesis involved the Holocaust and WWII.

AP European. I teach some other classes as well and am fortunate enough that admins I have worked with have let me pick special topics to teach as electives from time to time. My favorites being the Roman Republic and the Feudal Age.

In undergrad however, I also had to write a senior paper and at the time I was a US History emphasis ( I took equal amounts of classes in Europe and just chose US History at the time). I wrote on the emergence of modern America.

In Masters classes I wrote primarily on issues dealing with Rome. Particularly that I feel that Christianity brought down Rome more than any other factor.

The undergrad class I had focused more on these of the Roman Empire . The prof emphasized the terrible leaders and corrupt governments rather than problems with Christianity. I am not sure if that is right or wrong as a conclusion, I do remember enjoying the class but being frustrated during that time because it was in the fifth year of my undergrad degree (not the schools fault ).
