2. Plan to work your way through college the hard way like I did, either in the military or by working a couple of jobs while going to school. This takes longer, it's harder to do and you often find yourself putting it on hold while taking care of every day life like a family.

3. Or plan on working a job that may very well barely provide for your family.

One son busted his butt and managed to get to West Point. One son is now in the Army and plans to go to school after he gets out. He’d be in school now, but doesn’t want to commit to it not knowing where the Army will send him from one month to the next. And one daughter, due to health reasons had to let go of an excellent scholarship and is now struggling to work her way through college the hard way. Our other daughter will never have the option to do any of these because of multiple handicaps. But not one of the other three ever asked the government to hand them anything so they could get through college and it really chaps me that so many people like this person have this mindset that it's owed to them. Where in the world does that come from?
I am in total agreement with you. I have told my children the same thing. It makes one a stronger person when they have to accept responsibility for their lives and their future.
The key to becoming a successful adult is the adult influences you have around you growing up.

Where does this come from? poor up-bringing would be my guess.

you're lucky there is a welfare because the day that there isn't one you better become ready to murder the next man. because those have nots will make your haves THEIRS. and the same mercy they were bestowed by the rich man will be the same mercy the rich man receives from them.

Welfare oh we are so lucky. Lets pay people to be poor. The state of our social programs is proof that social security and all social programs are failures. The only why to help people is through capatalism.

Hell i don't even get cash assistance or an ebt card... what kind of human says stop voluteering time to help his fellow man? funny thing is I AM PUTTING MY SELF THROUGH COLLEGE ..with grants I EARNED from americorps..and i do pay my own bills the state doesn't help me pay for my groceries...i overdrew 200 dollars from my account to feed MYSELF and I will have to pay it back to the bank of america...not you...what makes me privileged...if i was i wouldn't have to be on state heatlh insurance now would i? but ill tell you what IS a priviledge for me...seeing a struggling mother of three in a home...instead of on the streets...seeing a baby thats being fed instead of starving...and most importantly...seeing the things that REALLY matter in life...not how big a damn grin i can give my girlfriend by making a diamond her 'best friend' or seeing that im no better then a person sleeping on the street corner...thats priviledge to me.
Excuse me, but you do not get "welfare" for a broken tooth. Besides the fact that welfare is totally different from medical assistance, if you read the post I wrote to GB above you would see that one of my daughters had to forfeit a very large scholarship due to "health problems”. She has a health issue that is life threatening and life changing and she doesn't even qualify for medical assistance, let alone welfare so I'm sorry if I don't accept your broken tooth story.

And please, you can lay off with all the warm fuzzy tales. Most people on this forum donate to worthy causes or volunteer their time in some manner. But we take care of ourselves and our families as well.

Hi Truth,

I shoot four times a month. Have for over 35 years. Think I am worried about some bastard who is too lazy (YOU) or too stupid ( YOU ) to knock on my door? Let the game begin............I'll bring the snacks.

It sounds to me like you're saying that those of us that have worked all our lives for what we have and take care of our families without government help owe something to those who haven't and that if we don't give what they believe is owed to them the result will be violence.

Sorry, but this sounds like one of those times it feels very appropriate to say the words; "bring it on".

I did catch that. But it seems that the taxpayer money is actually putting you through college - you are not putting yourself through college. I have no problem with people getting assistance for college. What I have a problem with is people who ar more than able to work yet they don't. There are plenty of them out there and I have little sympathy for them. If you are not one of the lazy bastard on welfare who are able to work yet don't then you should not be offended. In fact, you should be pissed at them. You should be pissed becasue if you feel you are worthy of getting assistance then it is all those unworthy recipients that are ruining it for those in real need.
