Default Pets contributing to lack of banking security

I find it amazing how the simple security questions asked while you are registering on line for banking can be simple to break. This article http://www.goodharborreport.com/node/821 identifies some questions that can compromise account security. I got to wonder if this can really pay off for hackers and if there should be other questions listed.

Well, you usually get to choose which question you answer from several options and then you get to enter the response to that question. So a hacker would first have to know which question you chose out of say a half dozen options and then would have to know the answer to that question. It's not like pet's names are the only options for questions at these sites.

Here are the options on their list. Try to guess which one I use for my online banking (or if it's even included in these) and then try to answer it. I'll give you... 3,650 tries; that's 10 a day for the next year and I'll bet you still don't get it.

1. What was the name of your first pet?
2. What was the make of your first car?
3. What was/is your best friend’s first name?
4. What is your mother’s maiden name?
5. In what city were you married?
6. What is the first name of your maternal grandmother?
7. What is your favorite hobby?
8. What was your high school mascot?
9. What is your birth date?

But sometimes, a lot of the questions that are asked, they can override. For instance, the hacker gets your wallet, with your wallet, he can learn almost everything there is about you. He can go online, contact the bank, give all your information and with 24 to 48 hours have everything he need. Also, he can over ride the system and have all your password and creditials all changed.

It is not that hard to do, you just have to know what you are doing.

What's not hard to do, wipe someone's bank account clean? How well I know. My family does it to mine every single month.

Kix,yeah but they are family, just think about a friend of mine. She had her car broke into and they picked up her purse. Yes I know that is dumb, but then they tried to get a $500 gift card at Wal Mart on a stolen credit card and nobody asked for id.
