It is awful that your minimum wage is so low. It completely blows me away. Here in Ontario, it is $7.75 but in some of the other Provinces it is even higher.

yeah but with the exhange rate it turns out to be a MCD's cheese burger and a soda.......... just kidding thorn.
I see it as economic darwinism. If someone is content with making 5.15 an hour. God bless them. Otherwise they better be looking for a new job or advancing there education. It makes people motivate themselves instead of waiting around for a handout.

I wish people could live on 7.25 an hr. A slave made better than that. They got food, clothing , housing, heat, and free medical care. Try doing that on the proposed min. wage. I used to have my own business. It is immoral to ask people to work for less than they require for min. needs.

As a former business owner I say this, it is the height of stupidity for a government to impose a minimum wage. It should be left up to market forces. There are some jobs that are not worth $7.25. The people in these jobs will be fired and the duties delegated to other employees. That's what I would do.

All raising minimum wage will do is drive small business out of business. I thought the Democrats were for the little people but by raising the minimum wage they are actually helping corporate America get even bigger. My church owns a coffee houes that is not tax exempt (meaning it is for profit) but if they rasie the minimum wage there is no way that we will be able to stay in business. We just could not afford to.

The destruction of the economy has begun....
Statistics show that over half of the minimum wage earners are between 16-24 years of age. Now, I am willing to take a gander and say that the job these guys possess isn't worth 7.25 an hour.
If you are willing to work at a job making minimum wage, you really need to work on your career goals....

No, I am not advocationg slavery, although I have no doubt some people do. I've heard them talk. And perhaps it is a coincidence, but they all have southern accents.I spoke of slavery only to point out that even those who would stoop to the practice, tried to provide them with minimal needs. Capitalists today do not seem to feel any such obligation. The only obligation they appear to have is to enrich themselves.

That is a very unfair assumption. I consider myself a capitalist, yet I am far from "rich."
I believe in allowing the markets to work, provide people with the avenues to better themselves; but, as always, it is up to the individual to make the right choices. If wrong choices are made, I don't believe that I, as a taxpayer who makes the right choices, should have to continuously bail you out if you can't learn from your mistakes.
If the minimum wage is so great, why not raise that sucker to $15, $20, or even $30 an hour?? The democratic leadership isn't that stupid. What they do rely on is the lack of understanding in the area of economics by a great majority of the populace. This is their base.
