Capitalists run in fear, stuff cash in mattresses
After years of so called free market capitalism reaping huge profits, when the derivative turkeys are coming home to roost, the capitalists are taking their cash and running to stuff the cash into a mattress.
Obviously, taking actual cash is a pain, but a better option is buying treasuries. Treasuries are backed by the same entity that backs the dollar bill, so they are the same, except bigger in value and not as liquid - they can't be spent for 45 days.
And those with cash bought short term treasuries for face value, in other words, taking 0% interest because putting the cash in money market funds is seen to be too risky.
But the larger message is that capitalist think the capital markets are offering capital for sale, just paper that is backed by worthless junk or maybe nothing at all.
Maybe its time for Bush to call for the end of all new credit, and call on a cash only economy as a patriotic duty.
You want food, pay cash. No cash, eat bark.
You want gas, pay cash. No cash, walk.
You want to work, demand your pay in cash. If he won't pay cash, go on strike.
Let's delever the US economy and get rid of all debt.
