Well let me see if your getting back all the federal income tax you pay every year you have to be in a very low income bracket.

Let me guess ................. Your on a disability?

I'll admit that I'm young. But not so young and naive that I don't know what's going on with my country.. I'm a high school student. I'm also a daughter of a single mother. How is this relevant? Maybe to some it isn't, but as a student of one of the lowest ranked states for education, I feel the effects of the No Child Left Behind Act. Is it perfect? Of course not! Is all the testing that comes from it annoying? Definitely. Do I believe that it actually has helped some? Yes. And as for being a daughter to a mother who does all she can by herself to provide a great life for me, Bush has aided her too. We moved to a state with no state taxes to ease the burden of paying more and more money. When Bush came in, it made all the difference. I won't go into details, but I know that this has also helped. There are other ways that our current president has helped me, but I feel that these are what have the greatest impact on me.

The money's still coming in and my husband's still working but who knows for how much longer? He's at one of those industries that's really feeling the pinch...like most large corporations these days. The financial future is uncertain since Bush came into office.

I also worry about bank solvency since so many are dropping like flies. My husband and I are 51 years old and we've worked hard all our lives, living by the rules of society, paying our bills on time, saved a bit in the bank, bought our own home and got it paid off, etc. But who knows what the future holds at this point? The hubs is too young for retirement and by the time he gets there the retirement pension and 401k may not be there anyway, seeing as how the banks and large corporations are failing these days.

I don't feel nearly as financially confident as I did under the Clinton administration. There are more real worries about the future even though at this point, the money's still coming in like it always did. It's just that what I see happening to people around me makes me concerned. And what I see happening in the financial sector makes me concerned as well.

I don't like what's happened in the real estate market with prices skyrocketing only to take a plunge later, leaving folks with no equity or owing the bank more than the house is worth. And those folks may possibly decide to let the bank foreclose and just walk away. I don't like the foreclosures or the repercussions of those...neither on a humanitarian level or a financial level. I don't like the rise in gas prices, or the rise in prices at the grocery stores. And I'm so sick of our country being at war.

But what can ya do, but follow the ride?...Bumps and all.

Are there really people out there who look to the federal government to make their life better? How sad that there are people whose happiness is defined by the government. Talk about giving up control . . .

Are there really people out there who pay their taxes blindly without expecting anything back? Oh please! The government is supposed to be "for the people, by the people". Yes, I expect good government in return for my tax dollars.

Great point...won't disagree. Has nothing to do with what I said, but thanks for sharing.

Personally, I've been waiting for some politicians to step up more direct accountability. We live in an amazing age of text-messages and e-mails and automatic notifications. For the first time in history, we literally COULD inform taxpayers about exactly how their money is spent, every time its spent AS it is being spent.

Of course these things are a matter of public record now, but why force people to seek out what could dispensed effectively for free?
