Default Does economic theory trump physics?

We can deduce from the comments of conservatives who call for more drilling on the land of the American people, and paying oil companies to extract the oil owned by the American people without paying for the oil owned by the American people, that conservatives believe the law of supply and demand will increase the supply of oil.

A physicist believes the only way you can increase the quantity of matter is by converting energy into matter.

Who is correct on the theory of the quantity of oil?

- The conservative economist who believes raising the price and government subsidies will increase the quantity of oil?
- Or the physicist who believes burning fossil matter converts matter to energy and increasing the price of matter isn't going to convert energy to matter?

Energy is finite. But there's a shitload of it out there, so lets get it. But wait, it costs a lot of money to get it, transport it and refine it. Logic says, maybe we should pay someone to do it. You know, like we pay letter carriers and construction contractors?

I think you just muddied the water for Americans under the age of 12.

Yes, the theory says matter and energy are conserved as in total, so converting matter to energy and energy to matter are equivalent. Note that theory also dictates entropy always increases, so matter will eventually disappear into energy so diffuse matter can not be created, but that's on the scale of the universe.

And yes, burning fossil fuels does decrease the amount of matter.

Using this theory, shouldn't we run out of food? Even if population decreases.

Gosh, wouldn't it be cool if we could harness the energy that already exists as energy withour depleting any of the matter that exists here on earth?

Oh wait... we can, solar cells do this.
Wind is a product of solar/thermal convection, that works too...

Who knows, maybe Thomas Beardon will succeed in finding a way to pull energy from the entropic vacuum... ok, a little wishful thinking there...

Is Morgan-Stanley speculating up the cost of letter carriers and construction workers?

No, the federal government speculates up the cost of letter carriers and construction workers just fine, thank you.
