Default Hey Cotton: Is E-trade worth anything?

I need to roll over my 401, (Well you know what I mean since I have to do something with it since my new job), I was thinking of taking some money out and mess with the stock market, but my question is I never messed witht the stock market before, How much money do you need to get started (minimum). Or would it be better to use some of my money and bet it on Kyle Bush winning next week at Darlington ? (Would it be better odd's).
I never get the stock market it just seem's like legalize gambling.

OUR FREEDOM!

I know the question was directed at Cotton, wyatt, but be careful about investing in stocks yourself. I personally use Edward Jones, they're a little on the conservative side, but in times like these, that's not a bad thing. If you give it a go on your own, be as diversified as possible and never get too attached to a stock. Most online brokers like Etrade & Ameritrade need $2,000.00 to open an account, be careful and good luck.
