Who believes that price is determined by the cost of producing a good and delivering it for sale?

Who believes that McCain and Clinton's calls for a moratorium on the 18.6 cent gas tax will reduce the price of gasoline?

Why not send everyone the tax moratorium $25 in cash instead of cutting the gas tax for 4 months -- that way we know that the gas tax moratorium flows to the consumer and doesn't go to the oil companies.

In fact, why not increase the Federal gas tax to $1 and send everyone $400 a year every year to rebate 80% of the Federal gas tax? Clearly the cost of gasoline is well under $2 a gallon, so the current $3.50+ price is the result of demand forcing the profits up to cut the quantity demanded to the actual quantity being supplied. The $3.50 price is not based on the cost of the gasoline, but the price that limits demand to the quantity of gasoline available. Increasing the tax does not reduce the quantity available to be sold, so the sellers will be forced to cut their profit to bring the price down to $3.50 in order to sell all the gasoline they have on hand. If they don't, then they will end up will increasing amounts of gasoline on hand that they can't sell at $4.50 a gallon.

This is a terrible idea: McCain & Clinton should both be called out on this, and it needs to be seen as the "pandering" and the trickery which it demonstrates in both of these two.

Its hard to believe that anyone could be fooled by a 1/2 tank of gas: what I find scarry is that the media talk loudly about this, repeatedly, and themselves help to promote this insanity & deceit. ...pjwky
