Yes, please do that.

You see, I think back four years or so when lots of conservatives were saying, literally, "you lost, we won, we're in charge, liberalism is dead." And conservatives were making all sorts of claims about how great the economy was and was going to be, about all the things conservatives were going to fix.

Of course, as a liberal, I take the position, unlike conservatives, that making changes and improvements requires actual effort over time. The elections of solid majorities of Democrats and a Democratic president will only be the start, and with all the problems created by Reagan-Bush-Bush over two decades, it will take two decades of hard work and sacrifice to reverse the problems they created.

For example, the theory of conservatives was that if you cut taxes, people would be able to save more and thus be better ablet to care of themselves. However, the facts are that with the high taxes we had higher savings rates than with the low taxes. I have no explanation for that, but the facts are that when Reagan took office, the savings rate was about 10% while today the savings rate is 0% or negative, and people facing retirement are in worse shape financially than people were when Reagan took office. The Reagan revolution has by all objective criteria left the median American worse off then ever.

It wasn't like the day after Reagan took the oath of office, Americans were instantly worse off, but Reagan's election marks a departure point from past trends, and the trends since have been negative.
