I hate all cars, including the three that I have that aren't running well enough to register.

I have traveled in first class a couple of times, which was sort of fun being dressed like the hippie I was. The space is nice, but I could never justify the extra cost if I had to pay it, and I'm sure that those who were in first class weren't entirely pleased that I clearly hadn't paid anything close to what they paid.

But I don't get upset about those things like I do when I see people paying a $1 for a bottle that they will use to pollute the roadside, which happens to contain tap water.

I see the people drinking bottled water as trying to be like those riding first class or driving a Benz. Conspicuous consumption over substance.

Ultimately, such people leave a large bill to be paid by their children and grandchildren. I think I care for their children and grandchildren more than they do; I have no children who will compete with theirs for the few resources left over.

Just heard a commentary on flying in Asia from an NPR reporter in which he made some of the following points:
- on the whole, the planes are newer and more efficient than those flying in the US
- the airports are for the most part much newer and more spacious and better run
- the airline personnel smile and are courteous
- the planes generally take off and land on time
- you don't need to undress to get on an airplane
- he considers flying to the US to be flying into hell

That's the way I remember flying back in the 70s, back when the government regulations were stiffling the industry and the government was in control of airports, routes, schedules, fares....

Democrats have oversight over the airlines/FAA, not Bush.

Wow. It used to cost 25,000 points to fly for free, now it's 25,000 points one way.
