Default Kinda Torn

Ok. My personal dilemma has to do with the price of gas/diesel and the oil companies. I believe a business should be able to profit and I'm not one of the "its so unfair" whiners.
I understand how simplistic people look at the profit margins reported by the companies and whine incessantly without looking at what those numbers actually mean.
I understand without profits, the companies would cease to exist.
I understand the global demand for oil has increased and how this affects the markets.
I think its outrageous how a Hillary Clinton would talk about "taking" oil company profits in order to finance her little social experiments.
I don't claim to be an expert in the petroleum business. But...

I also know the same tactics and schemes have been used for years.
"Oh, the price is up because we are switching over to summer/winter blends."
"Oh, the price is up because of increased/decreased demand."
"Oh, the price is up because we are EXPECTING more/less demand."

Its all a bunch of if you ask me. This isn't based on any "the Jews are controlling the world" conspiracy or on any dumb-ass "Bush and his buddies are getting rich" bull-shit.

I blame us, the consumer. Gas went to $2 a gal...people just paid the price. Gas fluctuated then went above $2 and nobody noticed.
Gas crept up...we got used to paying $2, so it went to $2.25. No problem.
Then the $3 mark. Now $4. And they'll keep going up until we say no more.

Its just been a game for years. I noticed, and you can watch it happen for yourself, when oil went down, the companies claimed there would be a delay before the price showed up at the pump. However, when oil goes up, you see it almost instantly at your gas station.

The excuse was always that you had to pay for the more expensive oil that was already in the pipeline. Well, when the price went up, why didn't we continue to pay a cheaper price for the cheaper oil already in the pipeline?

I don't really think there is an answer to it. I guess I would just prefer the oil companies be honest with us. Tell me you are charging more just because you can. Oddly enough, I'd have no problem with that.

But don't keep this stupid charade up of being unable to control the price due to outside circumstances.
