WalMart really hit it big when they started offering groceries. For the most part, they do have lower prices than grocery stores. People that are price sensitive are naturally going to gravitate there.

I'm American and I believe small business is the backbone of America. Wal-Mart has made employees out of thousands and thousands of former entrepeneurs. Wal-Mart sucks.

Do you have any idea what or if they got tax breaks?

Again, there are towns that cuts deal with these stores where THEY DON'T pay any local taxes, read up on this.

Oh, absolutely. I love the place. They often don't have the specific brands the wife and kids like, but hey...too bad....they can do the grocery shopping...
I used to love to grocery shop there because I'd save 10% on TOP of the 20% I'd save with my typical couple of hunnert$ worth of coupons. Made my miserly little heart go pitter patter!
Then the switched their signs. Now the Illegalse is ABOVE the American.
So screw 'em.
I know when I am not welcome...and in places were I am not welcome where I might be spending several hundred dollars, I typically find someplace to spend my $$ that welcomes me.

Translation: I am a socialist boob that really has troubles with reading comprehension, lies a lot (there is no public school that does not have the union) and am well aware that as a teacher I am screwing up young minds, have been for years and will continue to do so until I retire with my fat bennies package that I forget about when I am complaining about how little I am paid as a "professional!"

You are a socialist and want to force small businesses to stay that way.
Wal-Mart started in one store in a very small town...

Ummm, Tokie, Cat is a college professor....not a public school teacher. Too much assumption and not enough thinking/reading there, buddy.

I made a point. I provided an article that shows a cultural bias coming at wal-mart for doing the same things Target, Kmart and Sears get away with. YOu can not possibly put the hate solely on Wal-Mart. I imagine I take my bias to something that produces.
But yes. Wal-Mart Got Tax Breaks as all bussinesses do in my town for the 1st ten years after they open. You see, my town waves taxes on any business in it's first ten years of opening or moving into town. All businesses get tax breaks in my town.
Your arguing a moot point. My only problem is they get tax money in certain areas to pay for building there stores. Other than that, I see no difference between walmart, kmart, sears, target, and so on.
They all do the same thing, sell for similar prices, and use minimum wage employees.
Ill repeat it again also, Wal-Mart paid for itself in my town, and it allowed several smaller retailers open shop next to it, and they flourished.

I', sorry to say but America is not about small mom and pop retailers selling groceries at a 30% markup.
You have to be able to compete, and if you cna not beat Walmart prices, your gonna lose business.
