Everything I've ever read is that they are one of the few charities in America (and there are even fewer outside America...like um..none) that do what they say they are doing and do it on a shoestring, with most of what comes in going back out to the needy, rather than into the pockets of their administrators (see: VOA, see: Red Cross, see nearly every "homeless advocacy" and "environmental" charity on the list....).
Glad they helped you. The same can be said of many LOCAL, non-gov't run food banks who can be real life-savers.
Of course, since these organizations leave people in your situation beholden to no one but YOU, the lefties despise them.
This is why the left wants to shut down private charity and put it all under government control.
More control of PEOPLE that way!

I guess in the Keynesain economics of the left, more is less?
As for the horses...wanna put some of your trustfund divvie up where your fat, flapping gums are?
Say...$5,000 of it? What's that, only one month's payout?
Well?

Yeah, your version. I certainly understand your aaaaveersion to liiiinnkkks now. Seasonal-from Thanksgiving to the end of the year. This periods donations are up 25% from the rest of the year. And the article explains why.
So now tell me, did the Houston Chronicle run two versions? Because I am not afraid to post the link so that others can see that MY version, is exactly what was written. Redacted

The Salvation Army is a great charitable organization, and I donate every opportunity that I get.
If you and SATV can't understand my situation, well that's on you. Insurance companies, especially where rental insurance vs. owners insurance is in dispute, don't always pay off immediately. Add to that, to access most funds you need documentation (ie drivers licence, social security, debit card), one can, temporarily find themselves in a bind. But it was a VERY helpful learning experience, and I am the better for it.

What's your point?
MY point is quite simple: you claim that a huge number of Americans are living under bridges and in homeless shelters and that "Big Bidness" has taken away everthing they own.
So why is it so many of them are still able to donate like this?
Please do the math for me?
Your claiming that I am "wrrroooonggggggggg!!!!" because YOU, in your leftist haste misunderstood me, does not actually make me "wrrroooongggggggg!!!" It just means you have your head twisted leftward so far up your ass, you can't understand anything.

I understand your situation. I've been in similar situations. I am not a pedantic, absolutist-Libertarian like satv. I am a rational conservative. I understand the need for even some gov't-sponsored "relief." Do I think entire generations should make their careers in it, something leftists like to see? Well...no.
And yes, private charities are, typically, wonderful things, so long as you exclude things like private "envirionmental" "charities." These are just money-making machines for the upper echelong members. Something like Goodwill or Salvation Army are wonderful orgs.
Here's what I learned some years ago when I was in a bind: I am the wrong color, the wrong gender and too ambitious to be given relief. Even if my kids are going hungry. That's what I get for not being born in one of the sanctified "victim" groups.
But that's okay. I got out of that bind and will (knock wood...we are about to fill Congress and the White House with real socialists, they will probably work very hard to put me out of business) likely never be in that kind of situation again.

Duck is a kook, that's pretty obvious.
And I am glad to hear you don't pay any attention to Oprah, who encourages laziness and dependence on Big Brother.
