Interesting....
Wonder if the same ridiculous remarks were made when the SCOTUS made its decision to allow interracial marriage in 1969?
One of the marvelous things about the system of government is that it ATTEMPTS to protect the rights of the minority. As such, when the justices reviewed the laws and the state constitution, they determined that the law was UNJUST.
As I recall, there was a certain 'southern' state that had a law prohibiting interracial marriage still on its books. In the very late 1990s, during one of their election processes, a vote was conducted to remove that law. The vote passed, but by a slim margin.
Yes, boys and girls.... Thirty odd years later, there was still a large percentage of the redneck population that didn't think a black person should be able to marry a white person.
What does all of this mean? Sometimes, the POPULAR thing isn't the RIGHT thing. Rest assured, the justices aren't mandating that all the hetero's have to marry someone of the same sex... they are merely looking out for the concerns of ALL the citizenry. IF you don't believe in 'gay' marriage, don't marry someone who is 'gay'!
