Don't test the government!
OCALA, Fla. -- Wesley Snipes was sentenced to three years in prison on tax charges Thursday, a victory for prosecutors who sought to make an example of the action star by aggressively pursuing the maximum penalty..........
Criminal tax prosecutions are relatively rare — usually the cases are handled in civil court, where the government has a lower burden of proof. Prosecutors said Snipes' case was important to send a message to would-be tax protesters not to test the government....

Myself, I'm still not cool with people being imprisoned for years at a time for non-violent so called crimes. While the government found legal loopholes for this so it's not considered a "debtor's prison" type of conviction, that's pretty much what it is at the heart of it all. If he owes money, then they should bill him for it or use a judgement to garnish some of his millions in wages from making movies. Not throw him in jail, because if he's behind bars, he can't make movies for them to get their money on.
But imprisonment with the bastards who are convicted murderers, rapists and the such, where the cops and prosecutors joke about guys getting married to bunk mates named Big Bubba and Mr. Biff? Shouldn't happen for a non-crime where there is no public law on the books for.
It's sad but true. You don't have to be guilty of anything to end up in prison these days, even to the point of going on death row for some.

I echo this quote for a slew of reasons. So called *White collar crimes* should have it's own set of punishment separate from *Blue collar crimes* which may or may not require imprisonment. Restitution for breaking the law is an absolute necessity but to imprison a person whom is not a threat to society and in fact contributes much more positive than negative ought not be imprisoned for a first timeoffense that can so easily be repaid.
Had he been guilty of tons of offenses and defiantly dragging things through courts when he's obviously wrong should carry more punishment but not 3 years. I also prefer the option for many white collar crimes to pay restitution with a substantial fine as opposed to prison. Of course some white collar crimes are very deserving of prison, especially when it does harm other people.

My problem with this is that Al Franken owes back taxes, why isn't he in court also?

Oh My, this is screaming for another prison action drama movie, the lead is secured (and captive), and would quite possibly be authentic, for once.
I had an employee who claimed exempt on his W4, he showed me some pages out of the tax code that somewhat supported his stance, I wonder if he's following the 'Snipes' case with any interest.

I agree Rob, they let Willie Nelson remain free, so he could ultimately pay back the money he owed (thanks to a little help from his friends, he did). I really think Uncle Sam is making a statement here with Wesley, but why haven't they done this with other evaders?

BECAUSE HE'S JEWISH
Franken had a Jewish upbringing and grew up in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, a suburb near Minneapolis. Franken is a cousin of CNN's Bob Franken. JEW.JEW.JEW.JEW.JEW

Responsibility!!!!!!!!
Does anyone believe in it anymore?
He did not pay his taxes.....
He broke the law.....
Of course there are different levels of crimes that is why we have misdemeanors and felonies.....
There are civil courts....
Now, if someone eludes the government for say a couple of hundread bucks, they do not put ya in prison for 10 years.
If it is millions..... yeah no shit they are gonna kick his ass.
I like the way the comedian said it in the movie, "stop breaking the law asshole".
