Angry Dad ordered to give up soldier’s dogs

Give me a fricking break. I wonder who reported him and why? Why do we clog our courts with this BULL$HIT????

Dad ordered to give up soldier’s dogs

The Associated Press

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — The father of a deployed soldier who is taking care of his son’s dogs has been ordered by Cumberland County to give away two of the animals.

The Fayetteville Observer reported Monday that Henry Carroll planned to appeal the order during the county Board of Adjustment’s meeting Thursday.

Carroll’s son has two dogs and Carroll has three. The county said the five dogs at Carroll’s house qualify as a kennel, which he doesn’t have a license to run.

Carroll’s son, Adam, asked his father to take care of his dogs when his 101st Airborne Division unit deployed to Iraq. He is scheduled to return in December.

I am sorry but rules are rules. This may sound like a petty deal but somewhere along the line this was an issue with people having a pack of dogs and letting them run free. While it seems that we should allow some leeway the problem then becomes, what about Micheal Vicks dogs, should someone be allowed to take care of them while he is in the slammer? Where do you draw the line.

A few years ago a woman had several pet goats in a residential neighborhood. The city law was that you could not have "farm" animals in a residential neighborhood. Some neighbors wanted her to be able to keep them until one neighbor said, if she is allowed to keep her goats then I am going to get pigs or maybe even a cow or chickens.

No, if the law says 4 or less, maybe the father should get rid of one of his dogs rather than try to make the city look like the bad guy here.

You know I completely agree with your position, however I think in this instance the local government could have a military family member shelter provision.

But that would be an exception, otherwise I completely agree with you.

Well, there are discounts given to members of the military that are not given to civilians so there is precedent. Also why not have a military ombudsman help find a family that would keep the dog until December. There are other ways around this that would not include giving special dispensation to someone and then having everyone demanding the same.

Absolutely reprehensible.

Some form of special permit should be issued, at no cost to the father, so that his son might return to ALL of his family after his service. Or even better, it shouldn't even BE an issue.
