When you marry a person, you marry their entire family. If you cannot deal with the family, then the marriage is going to be hell. If the person you marry doesn't have balls to stand up to the dysfunctional asswipes it gets even worse.

I was married to an only child. His parents were (still are to my knowledge) flaming drunks. It wasn't a good combo.
