Thumbs up Web tip leads mom to Asia, abducted son

It's obvious both parents loved this child. It's sad the father wasn't rational enough and abducted his son.

"Her ordeal began on Aug. 21, after her ex-boyfriend Jeffrey Salko disappeared with their child after a visit.

At the time, he had joint custody of their son but was facing up to six months in jail for not paying child support. The boy lived with his mother and saw his father on alternate weekends.

Kobe's court-appointed law guardian, Joseph Fredericks, had recommended Rubin receive sole custody.

"They were constantly at war over this child," Fredericks said of the parents, who separated when Kobe was 4 months old."

How does "constantly at war over the child" make it obvious they were both loving parents? At least one of them had to be fomenting the war, knowing it hurt the child.

Why was he not paying child support?

Why didn't she turn him in for failure to pay when he came for visitation? His arrest would have eliminated his flight from the country.

Why did he want the child away from its mother so badly that he fled the country? He was either thoroughly convinced momma was bad for the kid, or he was too self-absorbed to see that depriving the child of BOTH parents is wrong.

Why were two grown adults not able to reach enough of an accord that they could raise the child together?

Way too many questions for any amount of love to be suggested, let alone made "obvious".

But whatever they screwed up, it's a damned shame for the child.
