What laws could we change to alleviate the jail pop? If legalizing pot would do it, then I say go for it.
Decriminalizing pot would take care of 20 to 30% of the problem. It doesn't seem like prison is the right answer for a bunch of things. Is prison the answer for prostitution? Is it the answer for non-payment of child support?

WRONG, again George. About 20% of the prison population is there because of drug offenses (thats all drugs, not just pot). Besides which I have never seen anyone sent to prison for smoking pot. Its always for sale and distribution, of large quantities, and never on a first offense. Besides, pot distributors don't just limit their activities to pot, they also make and distribute crack and other drugs.

If you are so bent on legalizing pot, write to N Pelosi, I'm sure she will support such a worthy cause. But then, maybe not. It would remove a source of income from her biggest supporters.

>>>Sorry, Teak buddy, but if you add all the homicides, burglaries, car thefts, etc. resulting from a need to support a habit, the number is well over 50%. Probably more like 70%.

Yeah, sure thing George. Then they are not in prison for drug crimes are they? Now if you can provide proof that they would not have committed another crime, I might, just might consider you weak argument.

To accept you argument we would have to say being poor is a crime, because poor people kill, steal, and assault to support them selves.

Besides, George, once again you are addressing all drugs, not just pot. Very, very few people need to steal or kill to afford a few joints. Or are you now advocating the legalization of crack, heroin, and cocaine, as well as pot?

Like I said write to Pelosi, or even Clintoon, either one should support your drive for legalization. They both need all the low end voters they can get.

The drug charges are usually dropped if the cops can get somebody on a burglary or auto theft charge. Sorry, Teak, you're wrong as usual.

>>>Take a look at the numbers. Rich people kill and steal, but it's not a crime because they don't get charged and they don't go to prison. Ergo, it MUST be a crime to be poor.

What a crock of shit. Lets stick with your original premise: "Decriminalizing pot would take care of 20 to 30% of the problem" (Lowering prison populations), before taking on the whole legal system.

You have not been able to support your original statement. Stop trying to excuse all crimes, pot heads are not much in the way of criminals. Thats why so few are in prison, and those that are, are not there for smoking pot.

You have gone from legalizing pot, to legalizing crack, heroin, and cocaine. Now you want to excusing murders and other low life's because they are poor. Your argument just gets more ludicrous with each of your posts. Go make you connection, get your fix, maybe you'll think better while higher, because you're sure not doing will now.

Exclamation the truth of the matter

There aremore people locked up in our country than anyother country on earth. Most of our prison population are there for drugs. {a violation of our constitutional rights] Our prisons are being used to warehouse the mentally ill. The real "bad guys" are free. The prison system has become an industry, creating jobs for people who should not be in that position in the first place.
Corruption is rampant in our prisons. Our prisons are creating hate, and have divided the people. I can go on.........bottom line, no one should be locked up for a victeml;ess crime. No, i dont use drugs[anymore] Yes, half my family is in law enforement. I speak from experience. People will respond as they are ttreated, it has been that way since time began. Many of you who only listen to the media, are missing the piont. You could be next, you could be cast into a cell, shackeled, mentally and physically abused. No one is safe. There is a need in any society for prisons, but, we have overdone it, and the sad thing is, most anyone with a brain knows it. I hear both sides, i have seen both sides, worked on both sides, and lived to tell the tale. We are headed for a country of little or no rights, we are almost there. Lock up the humans that are out of control, dont use the prisons to instill fear and break the spirit of humans. Sad Sad situation. By the way, the CDC officers are afraid, the cops are afraid, the peo[ple are afraid, dam mess. And just plain wrong how people are treated .
