Are feelings less hurt in cyberspace?

AWE can be a pretty rough place. If you cringe at the thought of being called a pig fucker or cunt, you may want to look for the chat room at huggies.com.
I was wondering..........does it hurt less to be insulted via the internet vs. in person? I know it is definitely easier to insult someone from my keyboard vs. face to face. You don't really know who you are insulting and therefore care less about the human being on the receiving end.
Hey, I know this place is called "argue with everyone" so anything is fair game, but I think we should all try and remember we are dealing with a human being on the other end.

No one I know in real life would call me a pig f***er or "C". I've granted myself immunity to those adjectives because I've been called them so many times.
If I've insulted anyone on the board, I am sorry and I have apologized. ![]() |

Thank God it is rare to be called those names in "real life", but don't you think it isn't far away? I lead a pretty sheltered existence in northern WI, but I'm assuming it isn't this nice everywhere else.

We're a civilized society. Name calling, regardless of gender, sexuality, ethnics, or religion is hiding behind a a shield for their inferiority complexes. I was driving one day with the kids in car, speed limit was 25 mph. I got behind a gov't vehicle, going about 20 mph, and I and was complaining out loud about how slow he was driving so he didn't have to get to work. They both looked at me, and said, "but mama you were a gov't employee." Geeze. Busted.

Ha ha! I've been busted by my 7 year old while bitching about old people driving. She told me they had just as much right to be out driving. Damn, I hate it when they are right!
I do believe you are correct. We have quite a few people with issues posting on here. They would probably buckle if dealing with a confrontation in public. Keyboard warriors. |
