Preventing Abortions
Honesty in teaching children about sex and birth control would be a good start.
Let us face it sex feels good.Advertising, literature, movies, television, musi c,etc all make references to sex.Sex is a normal part of life.
Abstinence is an unrealistic alternative,at least for me and most people I know. When I was a teenager I spent a lot of time trying to get "laid".I did not have much success. The few times I had a chance I had to hsang around the drugstore and buy things until the "right" moment when I could ask to purchase some condoms ,which were safely locked up somewhere behind the counter.
My point is knowledge and access to birth control can prevent pregnancy and therefore abortion.

I definitely agree, knowledge is the best prevention of abortion. But, as an extra precaution, before your life goals are mapped out, Abstinence, is a also an excellent prevention of abortion.

I think that as mentors, educators and parents/grandparents we need to show both sides of the equation. For instance some teens think that it is exciting to have a new doll to carry around and care for. That new doll has a way of changing your life and can turn into a burden. Why don't the kids see pictures of teens having to leave school and take menial jobs to support that new doll?

Rob, those kids are not the ones that seek abortions. I know, my daughter has several friends that have had 1 baby and some are working on two. These are teenage girls, most of which have a disconnect from family, and want someone to "love/love them". Babies also get them lots of attention, hence that is why they are working on two.

Freedom, then who is seeking the abortions? I will tell you that I have not done any research on this so I have to take what people say as fact.

The right has been unrealistic in their approach to teaching "just do it because it is a sin" Yeah... that has WORKED GREAT. This is why religion should STAY OUT OF THE SCHOOLS... we teach kids that this is BIG CHOICE and if they do make it then there are options to make things safe.
Also, I think the morning after pill is a VITAL answer to equation. I know when I was in college my girlfriend and lived together and for all intents and purposes it was like a marriage, we used condoms but one night the one I was using broke, so the next day she went to her doctor to get the pill. She took and never became pregnant. WE WEREN"T READY... we had educations to finish, just like these children in high school.

Nazi, this is what I see as wrong with our society. Yes kids are going to experiment with sex, drugs and everything else, but if you are going to play house, you must be willing to pay the price.
