Newly obtained documents prove that in 2003, Barack Obama, as chairman of an IL state Senate committee, voted down a bill to protect live-born survivors of abortion.

The right hand column shows the roll call by which Obama and his Democratic colleagues then killed the amended bill - the bill that was virtually identical to the federal law that Obama, starting in 2004, claimed he would have supported if he'd had the opportunity.

Barack Obama killed a bill in the Illinois State Senate that would have protected liveborn babies after they survived an abortion.
Again, Obama killed the bill.
Since that time he has frequently misrepresented himself on this issue.

In 2000, the Born-Alive Infants Protection Act was first introduced in Congress. This was a two-paragraph bill intended to clarify that any baby who is entirely expelled from his or her mother, and who shows any signs of life, is to be regarded as a legal "person" for all federal law purposes, whether or not the baby was born during an attempted abortion...

Barack Obama, as a member of the IL State Senate, actively opposed a state version of this bill during three successive regular legislative sessions...

The bill that Chairman Obama killed, as amended, was virtually identical to the federal law (that passed 98-0 in the US Senate); the only remaining differences were on minor points of bill-drafting style... The uncovering of the Senate Committee Action Report and the contemporary Associated Press report shed new light on Senator Obama's four-year effort to cover up his real record of refusing to protect live-born survivors of abortion.

It's even worse that he has been lying about this since 2004.

I cant help but notice that you didnt vote in this poll.

Isn't this just a case of the US prolifers sensationalizing the whole issue in their ongoing attempts to overthrow Roe vs. Wade?

It's more a question of whether this kind of political gameplaying is going to work with Americans to defeat Obama. Will this change the minds of any pro-choice people. It seems it will.

Pro life or pro choice. Eather way we shouldent let children that are born alive die in the name of Roe v Wade. Furthermore any one who does advocate the death of infants shouldent really be taken seriously as a candidate. The right to life (after birth) should not be legally striped away from anyone. If it is then all other rights are in serious jepardy. Are you also going to reuse to vote in this poll?

I read obama's resposnse to his vote- and I fully agree with him.

even the greatest bill can be thrown out on language alone.
legal precedences are a serious issue.

I voted 'other'. write up a bill that keep abortion safe and legal, while athorizing care being given to any infants living after an attempted abortion - and I'll support it 100%

Note that only 15 people opposed the born alive infants protection act in the house and it passed with a voice vote (non electronic/ just yea's + nays) in the senate. THE NATIONAL ABORTION RIGHTS LEAGUE DIDNT EVEN OPPOSE THIS BILL! So what part of the bill dont you agree with?
