The meaning of that quote is that "reality" does not define the terms of existence, but instead that existence procures reality.

Sartre was wrong. "Reality" defines existence. You can pretend all you want that you can fly, but without a device that conforms to reality, jumping off a building will most most assuredly define your existence (or lack of).

Most modern thought is an attempt to deny this truth. The desire is understandable, reality both sucks and is boring, however the inability to distinguish between wishes and facts is not.
