"Crisis pregnancy centers" turn an unwanted pregnancy into even more of a crisis than it already is.

A 17-year-old Indiana girl and her mother walked into what they thought was a Planned Parenthood clinic, never imagining it was a trap set by anti-abortion fanatics, according to an April 20, 2006 press release by Cecile Richards, President of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. This was one of between 2,300 and 3,500 so-called "crisis pregnancy centers" set as traps nationwide by the anti-abortion movement.

Some "crisis pregnancy centers" have innocent-sounding names and falsely advertise a full range of reproductive health services. Then after luring women seeking such services into the "clinics," the "clinic staff" aggressively dispenses anti-abortion propaganda and intimidates them.

Trapping Pregnant Women

The New York Times reported that there are many more of these traps in the U.S. than actual abortion clinics. A January 16 article reports, "Like many crisis pregnancy centers, A Woman's Choice [in Kentucky] is designed to look and feel like a medical center, not a religion-based organization with an agenda. Becky Edmondson, the executive director, said the center chose the look and name to reach women who were bombarded with pressures to abort and might think they had no other choice."

The Times article continues, "If callers ask how much the center charges to perform an abortion, Lisa Arnold, a counselor and leader of the postabortion group, said: 'I say, "It changes, but why don't you come in for an ultrasound and we'll talk about it." You don't want to deceive them, but you want a chance to talk to them.' Once women come to the center, staff members -- who oppose abortion even in cases involving rape and incest -- encourage them to make further appointments, and refer them to doctors who share the center's views on abortion."

In the case of the Indiana teenage girl and her mother, the "clinic" had taken down the girl's confidential personal information, then told her to come back for her appointment, which they said would be in their "other office" (the real Planned Parenthood office nearby). But when she arrived for her appointment, of course the Planned Parenthood staff did not have a record of her. But the police were there waiting for them. The "crisis pregnancy center" had reported to the police that a minor was being forced to have an abortion against her will.

Planned Parenthood reported that the "crisis pregnancy center" staff then proceeded to wage a campaign of intimidation and harassment during the following days, showing up at the girl's home and calling her father's workplace. The Planned Parenthood clinic's director reported, "The girl was scared to death to leave her house." They even went to her school, urging classmates to pressure her not to have an abortion.

Just another example of how low some people will go.

Yep. I ask over and over for people (especially you) to prove the things you say and yet, you never do it. I rarely say anything that I can't substantiate. If saying one thing that I can't substantiate makes me a liar, what does it make you when you make statement after statement that you are unable to substantiate? How many things have you said about me that you are completely unable to prove or substantiate in any way? Care to take a guess? Or is it OK for you to do it but not OK for someone else?
