Abortion is a very hot topic. Palerider and I have been going through it a lot on the other Abortion thread. He raises some good points that need to be considered. We still disagree but a solution to this problem will never keep all parties happy. There needs to be some middle ground in this argument, I have tried to make that case, but still Mr Palerider will not budge an inch, I am sure there are some that feel as strongly from the other way. The conclusion I have made is that it will not be illegal to abort but the timing of when to allow an abortion to take place, should be reduced dramatically.

Goodgirl, you left out the one condition in your poll which allows the majority to shift from keeping abortion legal to making abortion illegal. Was this intentional?

It has been a very long time since the majority of Americans favored keeping abortion legal if you allow for termination when the mother's life or health is in danger. When that provision is added to polls, a respectable majority favors making abortion illegal.

In this country, human beings have a basic right to live. Unborns are human beings from the moment of conception. Their right to live trumps mom's right to not be inconvenienced.

Well said, my view entirely.

hey on the edge, last i remember our foster care child program was huge, would that be so if their were so many people willing to adopt, i think not. Personally i do not see a few cells as a child or person thus im ok with early stage abortions, like in the first few months. so long as the fetus doesnt have real brain activity its not a person in my mind. this may be influenced by my sympathy for those young girls that have to make such difficult decisions but i think its not. late stage abortions i see as a cruel and disturbing practice. I know that i would be absolutely mortified if i felt my baby kick upon the walls of its mothers stomach and then be told it would be killed. in my opinion their is a line that needs to be drawn, and that line is lies in thought, and mental existence. Just as an aside does anyone else see the religous zeal that goes into such issues and divides politics as a little dangerous.

palerider, some people dont believe that a sperm and egg constitute a human being and thus do not have that basic human right.

The woman has to bear the entire burden of this risk, and the man doesn't. He shouldn't be able to make a woman bear a baby just because it's his genetic material.
REGARDING: I don't think it's a baby immediately upon conception. At some point it is, but until then it's decision.

The point when it becomes a baby is the moment in time that initiates the start of the growth!

BEFORE THAT POINT: It never grows - it gets expelled from the womb!

I don't believe that a sperm and an egg constitute a human being either. Alone they are of no more consequence than your toenail clippings. Once fertilization takes place, however, sperm and egg no longer exist as such. A new, individual living human being exists where they once did.

And your opinion that unborns are not human beings is worth about squat in the face of actual science that says that they are. You may as well argue that the earth is flat or that the moon is a great wheel of cheese. An opinion that is not based in fact, or on any credible evidence or proof is nothing more than faith. I don't accept your faith that unborns are not human beings.

One WITHOUT the other certainly does NOT make a baby!!

A baby can ONLY be when the 2 are combined - at that point the evolution of life has been started!
