The Bush administration will ask Congress for $10.6 billion next month for Afghanistan's reconstruction and to beef up the country's security forces to counter recent Taliban gains, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said yesterday.
|
Can't get it for Iraq, may as well try for Afghanistan. Same old story, same old song and dance, just a different dance floor. Taliban Gains?... Aren't those the guys the Bushies have been crowing about freeing Afghanistan from? (Don't answer that, rhetorical question) Gains? HEY! you right wing assh0les said we were winning! If not in Iraq, then at least in Afghan. Besides, weren't we there to get Osama? Anyone remember that guy? Anyone? ... no, not that guy... That's Obama..... no I'm talking about bin Laden.

In addition, the Pentagon announced yesterday that it would extend the tours of 3,200 soldiers in Afghanistan. The troops from the 3rd Brigade, 10th Mountain Division, were expecting to complete a one-year deployment next month, but their tour of duty had been extended by up to 120 days.
The extension means there will be about 2,500 more soldiers in Afghanistan than planned for the next few months.
|
LMAO.... oh yeah, that'll help! Ummm.... we've been at this for wow long now? Anyone see anything wrong with the math in that paragraph? ...extending 3200... but only providing a boost of 2500... that tells me they have been drawing down... doesn't it?

She said $8.6 billion would be used for training and equipping Afghan police and security forces. The money would also help to increase the Afghan army by 70,000 soldiers and police forces by 82,000, a senior U.S. official said.
|
Are there 70,000 people in the whole country that DON"T wanna kill us for being there? And oh DAMN, we've done such a fantastic job of this type of recruitment and training in Iraq.

The remaining $2 billion would go to building roads, an electricity grid and other infrastructure, as well as counternarcotics operations, said State Department spokesman Sean McCormack
|
First of all, WHAT THE HELL HAVE WE BEEN DOING FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS?!?!?! I bet if you switched the last two figures around, the Afghan people would be much happier with us.
"We've failed miserably in two different countries, so please, please, give us more money so we can fail a little longer" After all, it's great for the military-industrial complex (our friends in high places). What?! which would you rather have? Capitalism or peace... ?

They said the White House had realized that an "adjustment in strategy" was urgently needed if Afghanistan was going to be the success the United States wants it to be, and a broad interagency review was conducted in the past several months.

Ya think? Holey Sweaters Batman... you may be on to something. and it only took that Bat-puter FIVE FRIGGEN YEARS TO FIGURE OUT!!!

"There was a feeling that we were incrementally making progress, but that, given the kind of insurgency threat we faced last year, maybe that wasn't enough, that what we needed to do was make significant progress across the board," Richard Boucher, assistant secretary of state for South and Central Asian affairs, said yesterday in Brussels.
|
OMG... YA THINK!! Ya... significant progress across the board. I'm just curious, what was the plan before? Oh yeah... to make incremental progress. *throws hands in air* *shakes head sadly*

Mr. Boucher said the "significant funding," a decision to keep more troops in Afghanistan, as well as other steps by the United States and NATO were meant to disrupt Taliban's plans for the winter.
|
Disrupt their plans for the winter? You mean like.. cancel their plane tickets so they can't winter in the tropics? Disrupt? I thought this administration was tough enough to obliterate a third world country's opposition, coupla big Texans at the wheel and all. Now we're finding out from them that incremental steps and disruption have been the order of the day for some time now. Huh.... who woulda guessed? I'll tell ya who... HALF THE FRIGGEN COUNTRY AND ohhhhh, THE REST OF THE WORLD!
And you asshole apologists had the nerve to tell those of us that stood up and said EXACTLY what the admin is saying now, that we were unpatriotic, unAmerican, trying to destroy America...
BULLSHIT!!! we saw the writing on the wall a long time ago. It was pretty DAMN CLEAR. Kinda hard to miss. We tried to tell you because we love our country, we wanted to save lives of our wonderful volunteer soldiers, save our treasury, and remake part of the military for surgical strike operations to TRULY attack the men responsible for attacking us.
But no, you all had to listen to those jack ass media mouths that get paid millions a year to whip you into a froth, instead of your fellow American who has nothing to gain but a better hope of peace and prosperity. You willfully attacked (and still do) your countrymen to parrot the schlock "wisdom" (*cough*) from overpaid entertainers and power abusing politicians (which are most).
Look, it's just this simple... A citizenry is most at risk of fostering a rogue government when it is divided amongst itself. It's plain self destructive. What amazes me is that some of your ilk delight in supporting and perpetuating this type of behavior.
And those that do so... those that cry Anti-American or bent on destruction of our republic or socialist/communist or fascist/warmongers or pledge such blind allegiance to an idea, man, policy, as to allow yourself to be divided from your neighbor or any of the other casual uses of VERY serious allegations... are in my humble opinion...
... the most unpatriotic of all
