I agree, tossing things over cliffs is a bad idea. And ya, it wasn't the perfect system when it was assembled, and the framers knew that. But it was a hell of a lot better than anything before it, and IMHO, better than we have now, with exceptions to things like the 14th amendment. But then, it doesn't really matter if everyone enjoys equal rights if the gov't is going to infringe on them anyway.
