French officials are close to throwing in the towel. Their main concern now is to stop Muslims from capturing the heart of Paris. Thousands of police patrolled the center of the city to prevent rioters from attacking the Eiffel Tower and Champs Elysees. Muslim insurgents had used Internet sites to urge attacks against French tourism and national monuments.
