Are you aware that they are two distinctly different types of formations carrying two distinctly different types of product?
Also...we are a long way off from even possibly tapping into the tar sands commercially...in fact was it not you that provided the link to the study that shows that? Perhaps it was someone else...can't remember...anyway, have a look...

I'll answer you question on extracting the oil. In Long Beach CA., over 25 years ago they'd inject steam into tapped out pockets to glean the barrels of oil out...
Let's carry a known step further. Shale oil hasn't been worth the cost to extract it,,,until now. Again I'll pass on what I'll learned.
The Tri-State area has more oil then the entire Middle East. I'd rather spend my money on our own research and development, than piss it away to the Islamic Assholes right now.
