Good point 99. Unfortunately there is no Utopian answer. The sad fact is, that this is where democracy as a form of government and capitalism as a from of economy, butt heads.

In a supply and demand system, there will always be a demand for cheaper labor. Since no one already here is willing to take jobs below a certain pay scale, the supply of cheap labor will be filled from elsewhere. The best we can hope to do is make sure they are healthy, hardworking, responsible and law abiding. Just as in any (semi) linear system, when those at the bottom move up, there must be someone to fill the space at the bottom.

But isn't that one of the grand things about America? You CAN move up. Your not required to stay at your station in this society. No serfs here. Can anyone say where the next Eli Whitney will come from? Einstein, Oppenheimer, Edison, Wozniak, G.W. Carver, Lincoln, Franklin, Tesla?

We need an influx of immigrants to keep from growing stagnant. And while I'm not a big fan of Fat Cats padding their wallets on the backs of others, it is the carrot dangled before us all. If we are smart, work hard and embrace the values of this system, we too can go from pauper to prince in a single generation.

So to answer your question more directly, it doesn't end. But we certainly need to get better control over how, who and when people come to our country on an individual basis.
