Nowhere does it say that it is the impact that kills you, the verb being defined is "jump" not "impact". Impact was used as one of the two verbs as countering examples of how the jump will not kill you.

Well, you must know that I will argue this, even though it's being taken to such a ridiculous extreme......

But what if you jump off a 60 story window, and you DO have something to arrest your descent (after fifty feet) and you DO have something to soften your impact (say, a giant bubblewrap pillow), but you die midfall, then your premise is incorrect. Since you could die from the 60-story fall, even with the descent-arresting, and impact-softening mechanisms in place.

If it was simply the jump that would kill you, there wouldn't have been a need to add the qualifiers about your descent and your impact.
