In yet other older traditions, the physical self is but a "dream" that the higher, spiritual self is having.

As a Non-Abrahamic Theist, a Celtic Reconstructionist to be precise, I see the human mind as merely a physical part of the human body, not only responsible for the upkeep and operations of our bodies, but also connected to the spiritual self through that silver cord, with the subconious acting as an intermediary, a form of "resistor or fuse" if you will.
That's an interesting viewpoint that I haven't heard before and will need to give some thought. So, just to make sure I understand you correctly, you view the mind as a part of the physical body that is somehow connected to a greater (?) spiritual self? Out of curiosity what do you believe is the function of the spiritual self?
