The topic at hand seems to be the question of mind body dualism. Is the mind separate from the body? If it is then that needs to be accounted for and would give evidence for the possible existence of something outside of the material world. Am I correct in saying that most of you would argue that the mind and body are the same thing and one is not independent of the other?
If this is the case then I am just curious about how the following is possible:
In philosophy to prove that two things are identical they must be exactly the same. For example, I can have a sheet of paper in my hand but that same piece of paper, if missing even one atom in a possible world, is no longer identical to my sheet of paper. My question is if the brain and mind is the same thing how can we mentally comprehend the two being separate? (Such as in stories of ghosts) Would these not be two different entities?
Sorry if this makes no sense. I’m rather sleepy.
