They are really quite simple one word questions just explain each in the actual field of science provided with factual knowledge. Please explain 1.) "GRAVITY"...not the characteristics of gravity but gravity. 2.) Life and the force that brings "animation" to a lump of inert matter known as the BODY HUMAN...again, not the characteristics of life but LIFE..its origins, its evolution..etc, and of course NO THEORIES please. 3.) A "STAR".....Please explain the birth of a star, without theory, present the evidence of a NEW STAR being born, show me a star that exists now that was not evident in history. 4.) Please explain just how the Universe can be "observed" being 93 billion light years across, and yet only be 13.7 billion years old...again, no theories, that can be pasted....tell us in "your own words". Show us just how intelligent you, do not OPINE about how smart you are. BD
1. gravity (great choice) is an old metaphor. It comes from the latin, gravitas, which refers to a carnal attraction, a sort of lustful intention. When the scientific term gravity was being coined, the word gravitas was already a dead metaphor (a concept which no longer retained its intended meaning). So they assumed the phrase gravity and created a new metaphor. This time, gravity was a metaphor for how objects are attracted to one another (based on mass/density). This metaphor has then been literalized. It is no longer a metaphor, in that it now has a literal meaning. When Newton (thats the apple guy right?) was coining the term, it meant nothing (as I said, gravitas was a dead metaphor). So in virtue of assigning phonetic sounds to a concept, Newton created the metaphor. Now, literal, when one says "gravity" we know exactly what it means.
2. Life is matter which, seemingly unique from other types of matter, can experience itself as a distinct subject. In virtue of similarities amongst particular types of matter man has been able to assign the metaphor of "life" to these objects. They include man, animals, plants, and microscopic organisms. The term life may eventually extend to include more, as more "life forms" are invented/discovered. Right now, loosely, life is that which can control other forms of matter with an intention, a subjective goal. They can digest matter, reproduce matter, move matter, ingest matter, etc.
3. I don't really know anything about astronomy.
4. No idea. I wonder how they even came to determine those figures. Interesting though... how do you explain it?
