As John McCain calls for, and as Romney signed into law, individuals are able to buy insurance via group pools setup by a public corporation to ensure that everyone has access to affordable insurance. As McCain is calling for, the State provides subsidies for those without the income to afford the price of health insurance. As McCain calls for, those the insurance companies won't insure because of existing illness or other preexisting conditions, a government run pool offering them insurance as rates that are no higher than a specific higher premium is available. No one is required to buy insurance unless they can't pay their medical bills, but the uninsured do pay a fee that is currently about $135 a year to help cover the insurance of those in the uninsured pool.

So, while it isn't exactly what McCain is calling for as the system for the US, it is close, and it is exactly what Romney signed into law after he called for health reform in Mass, after being faced with the same situation that drives McCain's proposal.

So, if you don't think that Ted Kennedy is getting the right kind of healthcare, then you need to blame Romney for signing it into law, and then fight McCain who is calling for the Mass system for all States.
