Once again, conservatives are being lumped together with Republicans. Conservatives lean towards the GOP because that is their best hope of seeing conservatism survive. McCain has completely abandoned conservatives; ergo, his positions on amnesty for illegals, global warming, and more involvement with the International community at the expense of America’s independence. Conventional wisdom says that McCain believes he can win without the conservative vote. He is counting on getting the “Anybody but Hillary” vote. It may turn out to be the “Anybody but Obama” vote, but McCain’s strategy is the same.

Our borders were opened in the early fifties when Latinos from Central and South America came in then claimed they were Puerto Rican. If you spoke Spanish you were Puerto Rican. No one in the government stopped it. Puerto Ricans did not like what was happening because they got blamed for everything illegals were guilty of doing; drugs, etc. The problem went unnoticed in most of the country because the heaviest concentration of illegals was in New York and New Jersey. By 1960, Hudson County, New Jersey was almost a foreign country.

Today’s nationwide immigration mess began in earnest during the LBJ years. Senator Kennedy, more than any other person, is responsible for what this country has today.
The immigration floodgates were thrown wide opened when immigration became an affirmative program. Non-Caucasians were allowed to flood in order to correct “racial imbalances.” That was the claim made by liberal Democrats ——led by their point man a young Senator Ted Kennedy. He continued to lead the fight for open borders throughout his years in the Senate; double-crossing President Reagan after RR signed the first amnesty bill.

The Democrats controlled the machinery of government for more than forty years; i.e., the courts, and the bureaucracies. Not only was the INS neutered during those years, the American taxpayer was charged for lawyers defending illegals in our courts instead of illegals fighting their cases from their homelands at their own expense.
In the years the Democrats were in charge they tied up the immigration process with so many laws, court rulings, and bureaucratic dictates it is almost impossible to undo it. Even now, when those bums in Washington know that the overwhelming majority of Americans are against amnesty and open borders they are plowing right ahead with both.

The basic test of freedom is perhaps less in what we are free to do than in what we are free not to do. It is the freedom to refrain, withdraw and abstain which makes a totalitarian regime impossible. Eric Hoffer
