Well, to be honest I have always had an issue with "civilized war". For me it just makes it more likely that there WILL be war if people believe that they won't pay the price for it.
But at the same time, what happened in Korea was not a normal war, it was the nastiest of civil wars, with far far too much steroids in the form of superpower support possible making even that 100 times worse. My point simply is that you have to put the actions into context. The South Koreas were fighting for their survival, it such situations normal codes of conduct break down. Was what the South did right? Don't know. All I am saying is that this is one of those situations where something that SHOULD be black and white becomes a lot more gray: like Nagasaki and Hiroshima, and the fire bombings of Tokyo and Dresden.
