Put the situation into context. The North launched a massive surprise unprovoked invasion, you had a complete breakdown of central control in South Korea, the entire country was rapidly pushed back into a small enclave about 20 miles by 40 miles centered on Pusan.
Horrible things happen during this time. The North was butchering people they didn't like left and right. The Southern government knew that if they were captured they were going to be killed, so they did what they thought would help them survive by denying forces to the North.
Not necessarily saying they were justified, but it is understandable. Anyone who doesn't, has no understanding of what was happening at the time.
Again, the South Korean military government was a vicious group of thugs, but when compared to the Northern government, they still come off looking better.
Is it gut wrenching sad that this is the case. Yes, much like how it might be a bit better off for the Burmese people NOT to give aid so their junta can steal it, sometimes the two choices given to people both are evil.
I mean if you going to get so upset, how about the US bombing Germany and Japan during WWII. The Japanese killed what, 4 US civilians in the US. We killed 100's of thousands if not millions.
