Woodrow Wilson ran in 1916 on a pledge to keep us out of the war and then, having won the election, he took us into the war. After a massive "patriotic" campign where repression was freely resorted to by the goverenment, Wilson's Democratic party was crushed in the 1918 mid-term elections. And America turned dramatically against Wilson's foreign policy after that.

My point: the American people never wanted into that war and were only dragged into it by anti-democratic forces
