Anytime you place your faith in dogmatic zealots, no matter what the name of the denomination, and associate other human beings with divine salvation, two things will inevitably happen
The clergy will abuse the flock, and the flock will to one extent or the other extant, allow and rationalize the abuse.
This can extend to anything from imposed repression, to rape ,to the incineration of the flock to avoid a BATF warrant, to the force feeding of poison kool aid
I make little distinction between most religious denominations.

I do give a pass to the Methodists
They are the antithesis of Calvinism and are the most secular of all Xian denominations. They could not care less about who is gay, what goes on behind closed doors between consenting adults, and what goes inb a Dr’s office
They generally just sing hymens, read a harmless bible passage or two, then ask for volunteers for the bake sale, and used goods for the rummage sale.
