There are social and cultural implications emanating from this, that even seep their way into public policy
Bin a nutshell. Life is not a dress rehearsal folks. There is nothing to prepare yourself for, and there is no reward for being good, or punishment for being bad after death., and you sure as hell are not coming back here !

What is the afterlife ?
Doing something good, kind or helpful for someone else, and the fruit of that act lasting in the memory of those you touched, and they passing that on to others
If the unborn children of my unborn children, would someday when they are 80 years old, sit at the table and tell their grandchildren about some kind loving act they remember from their childhood that I was responsible for, and their grandchildren tell their grandchildren (or even if they don’t) then I will have lived forever
