First of all, it's not a mental disorder but a physical disorder, strange as it may sound to some. A kind of intersex condition, in fact. As you might know, the brain is what determines your gender, not your genitalia. Essentially, transsexuals are people born with the brain of one sex and the body of the other. This creates a whole lot of mess. GID (Gender Identity Disorder) is what it's called. You probably understand that it's much simpler to change your body than to change your brain, and as such that's the solution for most.
In other words, an FtM (female to male), for example, isn't a woman who wants to be male, but a man who wants to be male.
It has nothing to do with a masculine and feminine side. Nothing at all. Nor is it related to sexual orientation, while we're at it. An MtF (male to female) can easily be very masculine, and a lesbian. Likewise, an FtM can be gay and exceedingly feminine.
As for sex change operations, they're often necessary because the brain disagrees with what's already there. People with GID often have "phantom limb" sensations, in that they can feel what's supposed to be there but isn't there, just like someone who has lost an arm or a leg. The brain knows what its body should be like.
The reason why this is a problem at all is the dysphoria that invariably follows. Suicide rates are high, and most are depressed to some degree. The whole sex change process is there to lessen the dysphoria and let people live their lives the way they feel they're supposed to.
Also... Here are a couple of transsexuals for you.
Note how blatantly clear and obvious it is that they weren't born with their current sexes.

Yeah right, the mind has nothing to do in directing the will of any person? Or detecting a phantom limb, that is non existent....right? What a load of horse shit. Only from the mind of a secular humanist, can every sexual perversion be a product of physical circumstance, as if any person does not have the capacity of "choice". What they lack is the mental capacity to overcome their perverted lust, a mental deficiency, much like the addicted gambler or someone addicted to the adrenal rush of extreme sports, or even combat. The mind controls all aspects of the human body from the involuntary life support of vital organs to reflex actions of an eye blink. There is such a responsibility as "PERSONAL", to give in to any abnormal activity indeed is a lack of will power.
But this can be addressed, I know from the personal experience of being an adrenaline junky due to the rush of combat exposure and then being suddenly thrust back into a so called "normal" society. I constantly placed not only myself but even close family members into extreme danger, just for the release of adrenaline. When one is exposed to a heightened state of readiness 24/7 for weeks to months on end with the adrenalin level that accompanies such, it can and does become addictive. And when placed back into non hostile surroundings the adrenal gland feels deprived and even physical illness can result if there is no release. What was first diagnosed as PTSD and "panic" attacks were later found to be a product of the physical need of adrenalin. I would go for as long as I could and suddenly be overtaken with an uncontrollable urge to be placed into a dangerous situation, like extreme speeds or being exposed to any dangerous activity that might release the stored adrenalin that was actually making my body sick. I came to realize that I had a "mental" problem when my wife was with me in an automobile when the rush overcame me, as she was in the floor begging for me to slow, but I could not until the stored adrenalin was released, and it often would take a very close encounter with death to bring this about. Needless to say, that was my "ex spouse", and that also I have taken full responsibility, as she just could not cope with the sudden mood swings and sleepless nights. But with the proper mental conditioning this was readily overcome by allowing alternative sources to release this needed adrenalin sensation rush, through chemically induced episodes, gradually placing both the mind and body back into the proper proportional circumstances of daily life. There is nothing that can not be overcome, IF THERE IS A WILL FOR SUCH CHANGE. I have no sympathy, for anyone that does not address their own responsibilities, but tries to project their problems onto everyone and everything with the exception of where it belongs...THEMSELVES. There is nothing fair and equal about this life, we only glean from it what we are willing to place into it. BD
