There is still the law. So long as roe stands, unborns are legally not human beings and no crime is being perpetrated if they are killed. As to the segment of the medical community that seeks to bring the oath back to its original intent you need to understand that there are vast amounts of money available for those who are willing to do research on embryos. Entire corporations are springing up devoted to nothing else.
Do a bit of research into the various views from the medical community. Once more, there is no debate as to whether or not they are living human beings at any stage, the debate is over the ethics of killing them. There is a reason that the number of "ethicists" within the medical community has increased 10 fold in the past 2 decades. A great deal of money is at stake.
