Don't get me wrong here, I agree that leaders should be adults, and discuss issues for the betterment of everyone involved. I fully support Jimmy talking to Hamas. I think it was an awesome thing, and should be continued in the future. But history has shown us, that strong caution is advised. My point is that I am not sure that Obama can handle such a responsibility. He's young and inexperienced. If he had more time in the senate.... scratch that... if he had spent his time better in the senate, I might feel better. Perhaps on certain committees - ones that actually accomplished something... I may have better faith in him. I just don't.

See Jimmy with Hamas is exactly the same thing Obama has been stating about Americas enemies, Syria & Iran. No one is talking about getting rid of STRONG CAUTION. There is no where implied or otherwise with Obama that he's going to 'throw caution to the wind'...
He's more than experienced enough. I have spoken about this before in regards to the negotiations he was able to work out with the Chicago cops on videotaping interrogation. This was NO SMALL FEAT & his spearheading the moratorium on the Death penalty in a predominantly Republican legislature while a Republican governor was presiding. Honestly I don't know what more you can ask for in success & credentials with that scenario. Sorry.

The problem... the Olympics isn't the place for such a statement. The olympics are a place of show... people coming together to prove their worthiness through physical strenghth - not war... So, if Obama is against the idea of war, why protest the Olympics? I too, agree that the Chinese government is horrible, but this just isn't the time, nor place to discuss it. It's rude. They are a society based in ceromony and rich in culture, they will take offence.

The Olympics are many things. They have always been. It's just as political for China to be having this 'show' as you call it, as it is for others to call into question what they do. Sports IS socialized WAR. It always has been. Tons of political pride & self interest gets tied into the Olympics. Again history has so many examples...I don't even know where to begin.
Now to the whole saving face crap with China. See I know some intimate things about this from both being there & being married to a Chinese wife.
It's a tactic & a game they play in order to hide behind shit they KNOW that they do is fucked up & a way to live in denial. It's bullshit. I take that crap in one ear & out the other.
They are NOT a society based on ceremony & rich in culture. They WERE before the Communist eradicated it. Now they have the soul of a plastic glow light Buddha night lite. I am quite irritated at what they've done to their own history. As far as I'm concerned they are seriously fucked up in their soul because they on the one hand are EXTREMELY Nationalistic but ironically the form of government that they allow to rule was historically started by a German guy. Not exactly rich on Chinese heritage to me.

I look at everything form all sides. I have said on many threads, that I even agree with many of the things that Wright said... The problem is Wright's message of seperation that I don't like. Black this, black that. I don't think race issues will ever be solved until everyone is looked at as equals. The longer we divide ourselves - well, the longer we will stay divided. It's pretty simple. That's not the world I want to leave to behind to my kids.
|
Yes & after Wright continued with his divisiveness after ALL the public controversy on Moyer's show. Obama had enough & completely severed him. Making it quite clear that though he's grown up around this culture of separation he wants nothing to do with it. He has shown in spades that he's about moving far forward the direction that our children whom seem to have been smitten by him, by the way, that that IS the way he wants to go. Now before you say. "ya but 20 years....blah blah blah." Let me make clear that if one knows what the culture is like & if they are as smart & aware as Obama has shown repeatedly that he is, he can fathom why it's
not the way to go & communicate clearly, like he did in his first speech that very complexity & a way to move beyond it. In his second announcement in which he completely disowned Wright he showed the clarity of his focus & his direction by both allowing the controversy to damage him & giving Wright the rope to hang himself.
No Obama understands quite fine.

Aside from that, regardless of who's giving the message, or why, the message is pretty clear and these people remain the same. They are who they are. By their own admittance.
|
Again we are not voting in Wright. We are voting in Obama. He is not Wright & my previous analysis explains quite clearly why there's nothing to him anymore. It's time to move on...

That's funny, and a good point.... Wright had a chance to clear up those sound bites and instead reaffirmed his message of hate. So, so much for 'sound bites'.
|
Yup & he was smacked down by Obama. It's his problem not ours.

so, by your logic, how could he fix the entire country? If he can't manage to unite the leaders of one state, how do you propose he will do so with forty-nine others?
|
Well by my rather sound logic a president is not the savior he is the leader of the Executive branch. It has more power as one individual than the other but the collective nature of the legislative branch balances & siphons that power. It is the nature of our representative republic that it takes many to create the changes we want. Part of Obamas power is precisely the way his grass roots campaign works. He is getting a lot of infrastructure for the democrats to make big shifts in the electorate. If he gets the Democratic nomination, his gathering power from people that are genuinely interested in him will help push forward energy & momentum into getting new congressman & Senators elected this fall & the coming years. He has already decided to open his rather massive coffers from
individual donors I might add to help create a financial coalition for getting funds to people around the country running for office.
This is the nature of his concept of change. It can be Change we can believe in because money speaks & in this instance that money is coming from small, individual American donors. This is the power...
us.
This is what you are not getting yet. In time you will though. It's just the way of things.
